Stress and Anxiety
Stress and Anxiety
At the Thornbury Clinic we understand stress and anxiety can have a detrimental effect on your health and wellbeing. Modern life often results in great demands and responsibilities being placed on us. While some people manage, many people can become overwhelmed, leading to symptoms of stress and anxiety that can significantly affect their wellbeing and quality of life. Common symptoms can include excessive worrying, avoidance of everyday situations, difficulty concentrating, physical responses such as sweaty palms, racing heart and generally feeling agitated, fearful, irritable, tense or restless and having difficulty sleeping. We can help!
How can we help with Stress and Anxiety
Your stress and anxiety therapist will discuss with you how you experience stress or anxiety, including the cause or triggers, as well as how you wish to feel and what life will be like without it. You will learn about the body’s stress response so that you understand what’s happening at a physiological level and how to influence these automatic responses to promote a greater sense of relaxation and calm. Your therapist will then work with you to reduce your symptoms, using evidence based techniques such as; cognitive behavioutral hypnotherapy, acceptance commitment therapy, problem solving therapy and relaxation skills. This will lead to an increased awareness of your thinking to create more positive, helpful thoughts in a given situation. After sessions, many people report that they feel calmer and have more clarity of thought and feel more confident and relaxed in situations that had previously been challenging.
What can I expect the results to be?
After sessions, many people report that they feel calmer and have more clarity of thought and feel more confident and relaxed in situations that had previously been challenging. Importantly, patients will come away with a number of strategies tailored specifically to their stress and anxiety and a home self care plan.
